The Frick and Frack Show

Everyday, in fact several times a day, this is what my backyard looks like.  Our yard transforms from its normally quiet haven for birds, squirrels, and the occasional rabbit, into the puppy WWF, or as we like to call it, the Frick and Frack Show!

The wrestling moves Mr. Quinn and Misty Belle engage in are in no way harmful, but they are far from gentle.  I have to constantly remind them to slow down and "be easy" with one another, but it mostly falls on deaf ears!

Sometimes their ninja like moves are hard to even capture with the camera, they move that quickly!  In the photo above Misty Belle is doing her best imitation of a scene from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.  I'm pretty sure if I took a video of them I could set it to the soundtrack from a Kung Fu movie and it would fit quite nicely!!

Miss Kylee sometimes joins in, but mostly she stays out of the fray and I can't really blame her.  She looks on like the grandmotherly figure, and I'm betting if she could talk she would smile and say "kids these days!"

I can only imagine having these active dogs in some sort of apartment or even a small lot neighborhood setting, no wonder many of them end up in rescues across the country.  They need this crazy play time and they let you know if they don't get it throughout the day!  They could care less if it's sunny, rainy, snowy, hot or cold, they want to be outside and I always accompany them when they are out.  It's good for all of us, and I crack up whenever I watch them play because they are so full of energy and find joy in the simplest of things...even a stick shaped like a wishbone!

Oh, and if you are wondering where the term Frick and Frack comes from...click HERE...who knew?!

I'm glad you all enjoyed the bird photos from yesterday, I tried again today to get some more swan pictures, and I think I may have gotten some by George!

Have a wonderful weekend my friends!

  2. HA! Handsome and Rowdy do this at least once a day too... but Rowdy is always VERY selfish with the sticks and toys. So nice to see pups play together.

  4. Cute! Reminds me of my home today...my goldie mix (who just lays around, rolling his eyes), my friend's mini-Schnauzer (the instigator), my granddogs, a Boggle (grrrrr...in her play), and Catahoula Hound (wiggle worm, heavy tail, and puppy...plays HARD)...all running through my house today. I got NOTHING done!!! I need a fence for the back yard!!!

  6. They look like they are having so much fun! I love that you let them be dogs and run and jump and karate chop! :) Yes, I think that that is what Miss Kylee is saying just by the look on her face! :) You captured some great shots here!

  7. Those pups are adorable! Your pictures of them are too! Love the action shot of the younger pup. I can only imagine the ruckus they make. Our dogs romp and tear around too, chase sticks, do show-off running loops around me, and talk back when I talk to them. Dogs are a man's best friend, and a woman's...thanks for the great pictures.

  8. I can't help but think back to the difficulties you had when you (initially) introduced Misty Belle to Mr Quinn and Miss Kylee. Now Mr Quinn looks as if he would be totally lost without her. We are about to introduce a new Blue Heeler (Molly)into our family. Mickey and Buffy are now 10 and I am extremely apprehensive about how it is going to go. Fingers crossed, they will accept her just as Misty Belle has been accepted into your family. Have a great weekend Kat. ;)Sharyne

  11. You did such great job capturing all those fast moves, I absolutely love seeing them all in mid-action! That's a whole lotta cuteness right there. And that was so interesting about Frick & Frack, didn't know that! xo ~Lili

  15. Misty is getting so BIG!! It's wonderful to see her with Quinn, each having so much fun.

What you didn't mention was how much time it must take to remove the mud that is undoubtedly impacted in between each of their toes. Is it ninja fighting, or mud wrestling?

  21. I love dogs, and yours are beautiful. Our two little dogs are like this all the time. Somtimes I think it's more of a performance for any humans who happen to be watching. Gotta love them.

    Cheers,
