Getting to Know You

Lately people have been tagged to reveal 7 things about themselves to the whole world.  I love reading these posts and finding out a little more about the people behind those beautiful blogs.

I mean you can learn a lot about a person by how their house looks, or how they can transform trash into treasures, but it's these 7 Things About Me posts that I find really interesting.

Like finding out that Tina over at Rubies Place was once a ballerina...how cool is that?!  Or that Samantha from The Nest is married to a Paul Newman look alike!  And Kim over at Savvy Southern Style loves to vacuum...hey Kim, please head on over to my house and spread the love!

Kim was also the one who gave me this recent award.  Thank you Kim!  So now it's my turn to share a few things about myself with all of you out there in blogland!

1.  I'm terrified of bats!  We once considered buying a beautiful home set on acreage that backed up to a state park.  It had everything going for it until I saw a black furry thing flying all around!  Yup, one little bat sent me running for the car and we never considered that house ever again.  And to all you bat lovers who want me to know how good bats are at eating mosquitoes etc., sorry you won't win me over...trust me!

2.  When I eat M&M's I group them by color before I eat them.  I always make sure to leave one of each color for the very end.  And I'm not crazy or OCD, I mean I don't make all of the M's line up or anything! ;-)

3.  Mr. Tide and I met racing sailboats.  I had a torn ligament in my ankle so I was helmsman and ballast, while he helped man the sails.  I jokingly told my mother when I got home that evening that I was going to marry him, I was really only kidding!  5 weeks later we were engaged, and 6 months after that we were married!  We will have been married 24 years this June!  And now our son sails too!

4.  I've always wanted to play tennis here, just once!  It's the famous "Centre Court" at Wimbledon.  I played tennis at the University I attended, and playing at Wimbledon is the secret wish of almost every tennis player I know!  You'd never know it by looking at me now, but I was pretty good once upon a time, in a land far far away!

5.  My family means everything to me!  I love them to pieces and am very protective of them.  I love to laugh with them and they make me so happy and very very proud!  And this includes my sweet doggies too!

6.  When I was younger, I always wanted to be a police officer!  My best friend's father was the head of our local State Police barracks and I loved riding around in his police car!  Even throughout college I still really considered joining a force somewhere.  I'm older and wiser now with friends who are police officers (Hi Jim and Irish!) and I understand what a very hard and dangerous job it is, and how underpaid and over worked they truly are.  And so what does our son "Bugs" want to do when he finishes college?!  Become a police officer!  I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree sometimes!

 7.  I have the best job in the world, wanna know why?  Because some days I get to work in my PJ's!  These sheep jammies are a personal favorite, they are comfy and very inspirational! :-)

I am so blessed to have wonderful friends & family, great neighbors, awesome children, and the most amazing husband plus I get to live in a beautiful home, life is good!

So there you have it, a little bit about me.  I would love to hear more about you, so please feel free to join in and do your own "7 Things" post, and pop back by and leave a comment so that I can visit your blog and learn a little bit more about you!

  1. Well, you may not want to come visit me on a warm summer night at dusk because we have bats swooping over our pond! Also, my son-in-law is a police officer and on S.W.A.T. No, they don't get paid very well for protecting us! Great post and you deserve the award. You are supposed to pass it on to fifteen other bloggers, but it is hard to pick that many. I think they need to lower that number.

  2. Great post! I am also terrified of bats. Hubby & I were vacationing in Italy and stayed in this wonderful converted convent overlooking the sea. Everyday we ate dinner out on the beautiful patio. Until one evening our conversation went like this. Me: are those birds over there? Him: No they are bats. Me: OMG, grab the food we are going inside. I caused quite a commotion on the patio that evening and the next morning we checked out of that hotel.

  3. Kat, you are just so darn cute...not only that picture, but your personality! Cracked me up about the M&Ms and the bats! Not that it's funny that you're terrified of them, but by the way you told the story. I loved how you met Mr. Tide and that you somehow knew, even though you didn't really think you knew he was the one! This was great fun to read and I enjoyed your well placed images too. You so deserved the beautiful blogger award too! Congrats! ~Lili

  4. Kat, my dear, are you sure you haven't been living my life? The similarities between us are WAY beyond what can be assigned to coincidence. My #3 daughter just graduated from George Mason with a degree in (are you sitting down?) Criminal Justice.

  5. More insight to you, what a gift you have. I am going to ponder this seven things about me. By the way I too played tennis in college and coached high school here a couple of years ago. A sport you never forget how to play. Congratulations on your award, how perfectly fitting.

  6. Kat, I dislike bats too. Had one in the house last spring and it was not fun. My husband slept through the ordeal, telling me simply to "close the bedroom door, ok".
    Grouping the m&m's? Um, wow.

  12. LOL You wouldn't ever want to visit my home then! At dusk we are entertained by the "evening patrol" - about 20 bats who swope and dart over our yard. Get those bugs!!!

  14. I love watching bats. How do you feel about snakes? I leave the good ones and take out the bad ones.

My DH and I both knew the first night we went out we were going to get married. We were also engaged 6 weeks later and married 6 months later! Just had our 29th First Date Anniversary.

My cousin has been on the SWAT team for awhile and is now a Detective. He works undercover, and we worry about him a lot. His wife doesn't like that he doesn't make a fortune. Oh well, I'm glad he's out protecting others as he is good at it.

We have a lot in common - I work in my pajamas too. Sometimes too often!

    Enjoyed learning more about you!
