Vintage Christmas Memories

Each year...

When I rummage through my Christmas tubs...

And come across the things that have been in my family for as long as I can remember...

And some things that I've picked up along the way, that were in someone else's family...

Things that someone else didn't want to remember, or forgot about years ago...

I think of those who are no longer with me during the holidays...

And for a moment I am sad...

But then I remember, especially as I hold an ornament from my childhood in my hand, that those we love are always with us, celebrating right alongside us.  So even though we aren't together in the physical sense, we are forever connected, and for me, that's what makes Christmastime so special.

Merry Christmas to all the family and friends who are no longer here on earth with me, but are always by my side and forever in my heart!

I just love your vintage ornaments. After looking them over, I can still remember my grandmother having some similar to your collection! Exactly, our loved ones are always by my side and forever in the heart!!!

  3. That's a lovely thought - and one I'll remember. At every family dinner we have a tradition, learned from my mother, of toasting 'those who can't be here'. It's always taken to mean those who couldn't travel to be at the table, and those who have gone before us.

  7. Lovely post, Kat! It must have something to do with not seeing our ornaments on a regular basis. I love the memories they bring back.

    Happy Holidays!

  8. Your photos are breath-taking, as always. They convey the true spirit of what you're saying ... Christmas is a time to celebrate friends and family, whether they are still on earth with us or not. The ornaments are just the vehicle.

  10. Such beautiful ornaments! I wish I had some of the vintage german ornaments from my youth, but I have no idea what happened to them. Thinking about those who are no longer with us while pulling out the ornaments is so nice to do. Great post! Thanks for sharing.

  13. I lost my dad 2 yrs ago and it's still so hard at Christmas. You see my Dad played Santa for 35 yrs and when I see a really good Santa it sometimes brings me to tears. I know he is all around me as my 'guardian angel' but it's this time of yr when I wish he was still with us. Listening to the Carpenters and Andy Williams was his favorite things to do at Christmas. And all those old bulbs sure do bring back so many memories. Hope u and ur family have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Safe New Yr.

  17. It's truly a season of reflection. Some of it magical, some of it melancholy.
