Charmed Life

Last night my computer got the blue screen of death.  For those of you who have ever experienced this, you know it's NOT good!  Thankfully Mr. Tide is kind of a whiz with computers, and he worked tirelessly to get me back online today.

I think we all have days like that, when things don't go right, and you wonder if the world is conspiring against you.  Last night I had lots of work stuff to do, and emails to return, but the universe had other plans for me it seems.
When I did get back online I realized how great this world of blogging is.  Several of you replied to my last post to let me know that several of my crystal "ashtrays" may in fact not be ashtrays at all.  One of them definitely is, but I'm thinking my mother and grandmother are shaking their heads a little and wondering how they raised someone who can't tell a candy or nut dish from an ashtray.  It appears that two of the pieces are from the Victorian era when cut glass reigned supreme.  And they are likely part of the American brilliant cut glass craze that took place from the late 1800s until the early 20th century.  Thanks Tom for telling me I might be barking up the wrong ashtray tree and encouraging me to look into this more, I learned something new!

This evening I wandered in to my living room just as the sun was setting and I realized that even when life throws us a curve ball like a very sick computer, (and trust me I've had plenty of them in the last 7 years), there is always something to keep us going and make us happy.  We all live a charmed life in some way, shape, or form.

I grabbed my camera, and aside from cropping and straightening these pictures, this is what greets me every time the sun is setting in this wonderful little place I call home.

It was the perfect ending to the perfect day, sunny and slightly warm, and most of it spent outside with my favorite furry friends.

I apologize to those of you whose email I haven't returned or the comments I haven't replied too.  Forgive me, but I was busy enjoying this out my front door, and living a slightly crazy, but oh so very charmed life!

I hope each of you has a charmed life kind of day tomorrow!

Spread the Love...

  1. I think we all need our computers to go on the fritz every now and again. As much as I love blogging, sometimes it's nice to step away from it all.

    You have a beautiful home.

  7. How weird is this ... I was standing in the basement last evening, enjoying how the setting sun was illuminating the brick walls of our scary basement workshop. Great minds, my dear .... great minds. No wonder we're friends.

There's nothing like the Blue Screen of Death to remind us about what's important in life ... frequent backups of our data! I had my own Blue Screen a few months ago, and The Husband fixed whatever was amiss (ain't it great to have computer guys around the house?) That very afternoon, I went to Best Buy and bought a little back-up drive and now I have The Husband back up my stuff at least every month.

  8. I love the reflection of the sunset on the picture, that is so cool!

Now you know how I always tell you I come here for inspiration? I know you're busy, but when you get a chance, please drop by and read my post from this week (I only did one) and see how I finally took the advice you wrote in an email to me last summer. I kept that bit of advice in my inspiration book and after taking a deep breath, I put myself out there.

Thanks Kat, for giving me a boost of self-confidence and helping to put me on a path where I'm having a whole lot of fun!

    Hugs

  10. My laptop broke down New Years Day...I took it as an omen or a sign that I needed to find other ways to spend my time. ;-D

Your indoor photos are just as beautiful as your outdoor ones. I love the stream of light across your walls and the picture out your front door is simply gorgeous!

    Happy Thursday!

  11. Not the blue screen! I haven't seen one yet, but I did get a sort of nasty virus the other day that hubs had to spend several hours to get rid of. Glad things are up and running again.

Lovely sunset & a beautiful song. I'd never heard of the artist before. Thanks for the blog love. I was absolutely tickled when I got to the end of your post! What a nice way to start out the morning. Gives me hope that I won't zap myself today when I wire up the light I've been working on.

  14. So glad he was able to fix it! I hate when my computer is down. Gorgeous picks. I had a similar experience the other day except it was sunrise and the colors turned everything pink!

  15. Hi Kat, I've been there and it's soooo frustrating! Your photo's are beautiful, I'd get caught up in that sunset also! We still have tons of snow in northern Massachusetts. Spring can't come soon enough! I could use some charm in my life about now! Have a great day!

  17. I've faced the Blue Screen of Death and come through to the other side - it's ugly, but you will survive! :)
You know, Kat, what I like best about this post is how you point out, quite subtly, that it's about attitude. The beauty of your home and surroundings is always there, but it's your attitude that lets you see and appreciate it.

  19. Lovely post. Thank you Marcy Michaud for sharing it today on stylesson.com -that's how I found it.

We have all faced the difficulties and frustrations technology brings, but somehow those occurrences allow us to examine and explore the underlying beauty and simplicity of everyday life that are often overshadowed by our computer screens. Thank you for sharing Kat.

  22. Saw your new post in my reader and clicked over. Wow, thanks for the "spread the love" for my new photography blog. I am embarking on a journey to learn how to take good photographs on purpose after spending years clicking away for other projects and purposes, like my love of cemeteries and genealogy. Thanks, again!

  23. Ah technology is such a challenge and don't we depend on it? I am glad Mr. Tide was able to rescue the laptop. Your sunset is striking.

  28. Glad to see the blue screen of death was revived, or I would've missed the beautiful sunset through your artistic eye.

  29. The warm glow of the sun reflected on the glass feels like a big hug from Spring. The view from your window is gorgeous. Lucky us your computer was revived!

  30. Is that an Aubrey Bodine, by any chance? :)

  31. Thanks everyone! And Thirkellgirl, I couldn't find an email to reply to you, so I hope you'll see this. Sadly it's not an Aubrey Bodine print. I wish I owned one of his wonderful original photographs! He captured our region like no other photographer. I have several friends who own some of his work and it truly is amazing. His books are wonderful too!

    Kat :)
