Upon Reflection

On top of everything else we've had break over the last few weeks, yesterday, our AC decided to give up the ghost!  It's at times like these that you might begin to reflect on money and whether or not you should have bought that new sofa, car, taken that vacation, or whatever else you've spent money on over the last year.

Sometimes you think, "geez, if only I hadn't done this or that, things would be easier now that everything is falling apart."  And you might even begin to second guess those earlier decisions and wish you hadn't spent the money.  But I am not one of those people.  Yes, I will be more frugal because of the hemorrhaging of money from all we've had going on lately, and no I would never suggest that someone should spend frivolously and put themselves into a a dire financial situation, but you can't always live life waiting for the other shoe to drop either.

Tonight, as I was looking at some of my old images, I stumbled upon the picture above.  I snapped this pic in the Marais last December, I loved the reflection of the row of buildings across the street in the glass storefront in front of me.  And even though we will be pinching pennies for awhile...upon reflection, I'm so happy that I didn't save every dime for a rainy day causing me to miss strolling the streets of Paris.  I enjoyed every minute I was there, and I was blissfully unaware that appliances and cars often conspire against us months later for abandoning them for 10 days!

  2. What a great picture, Kat. I think there is a fine line between being frugal and being cheap, don't you? I know people that are frugal but NOT cheap...but CHEAP people drive me nuts. I have really cut back on my spending big time in the last year or so- xo Diana

  3. An amazing photo! I feel the same as you. I'd never regret the money spent to spend time in Paris. Appliances, cars, new roof, new paint on the house, ...... the list could go on and on. We have to seize the moment and enjoy what life has to offer. ;-)

  5. Oh No! AC deja vu! This might make it better for you. Due to the high efficiency of the new ACS now available my bills this summer were almost 100 less each month thanks to new unit in June...Still the thousands I still owe on my card hurt a bit..so the 300 I save each year will pay for the unit in let's see...just 14 years lol :D

  6. Oh dear the AC dying is not good but maybe the new one will be more energy efficient. I had to have an air bag repaired in my car and nearly fainted at the cost. xo, olive

  7. Think of this as a fortunate crisis ... since it happened while we are enjoying such amazing autumn-like weather this week. You were going to have the windows open to catch the breezes anyway, so you won't miss the a/c for now.

  8. Love your picture, Kat. I so agree with what you're saying. We dipped into our savings too, to have the holiday of a lifetime and I don't regret it, not one little bit. It was wonderful.

  10. It took me a moment to figure out that I was seeing a reflection in your photo...how perfect! And ugh the unexpected surprises of maintaining a household. Makes Paris seem more like a necessity for sanity's sake! xo
