Nothing to Write Home About

Where does the time go I sometimes wonder?!  I've been so busy with work that I haven't had a chance to reply to comments, send emails, or even snap a picture in the last 4 days!

I broke the no picture streak this afternoon when I took a few photos from my back yard.  What you can't see in the picture is that is was, and still is spitting snow.  I doubt it will amount to much, the lion's share is expected to stay pretty far south of us, but seeing big fluffy snowflakes was fun none the less.

The older I get the more I find a certain sense of beauty in the stillness and lack of color that the winter has to offer.  Though I can't imagine I will ever give up spring and summer as my favorite seasons, in winter it seems as if the world is forced to bare its soul for a few months and I think we all need to bare our souls to someone every now and again.

As I'm winding my way through new ventures I've been bending Mr. Tide's ear a lot lately and he patiently listens and offers sage advice.  Someone should probably give the man a medal, because nothing I drone on and on about is really anything to write home about, but he treats it as if I'm pondering world peace or ways to save the planet.  You have to love someone who lets you bare your soul and doesn't laugh when you share your dreams and aspirations.

Well it's back to work for me...at least until Downton Abbey starts!  I hope you each have a wonderful week and if you have something to write home about, do tell, I can always take time away from work for a good story!

  1. These pictures are absolutely beautiful and your take on winter puts it all into perspective! I am patiently awaiting spring...patiently, because as I get older, I don't want to wish time away. Even living in the cold Midwest, I love that we have a season that makes us cuddle, grab the warm quilts, make a fire, eat soup, spend time indoors. And walking outside, bracing the cold, it makes you feel strong, significant.

I have nothing to write home about...I have been taking pictures as I can. Reading a lot! And missing Downton Abbey. I will have to rent the first two seasons. That will be fun though. I love TV marathons!!

    Have a good Sunday evening!

    XO,
    Jane

  2. Lovely photos, Kat...kind of the year of no winter here, although if I say that we'll finally have a snowstorm! Can't wait for Downton Abbey, too!

  5. Very nice photos! And sometimes we have to keep our focus on our work to get it done. I've been focused on sewing and missed a lot of blogging, too! It's so hard to keep up with everything! ♥

  6. Ah, the quote is so true. While the privacy of winter in a rural setting can be divine, it can also be so isolating at this time of year. I am feeling more isolated rather than divine right now ;)

  7. The bleakness of winter makes me anticipate spring all the more. And one of my favorite quotes about winter:
“I prefer winter and fall, when you can feel the bone structure in the landscape---the lonliness of it---the dead feeling of winter. Something waits beneath it---the whole story dosen't show.”
    ― Andrew Wyeth

so . . . how did you like the end of the season of Downton Abbey? Beautiful, wasn't it?

  8. Ah yes, Downton Abbey - I'm hooked! I've bought Season One and will find Season Two on DVD so that when the final Season Two episode airs I'll go back and start at the beginning! I'm also reading a really good book by the Countess of Carnarvon, Called Lady Almina - and The Real Downton Abbey...the story of the house used in the series, and the real-life family that lived there and continues to care for it.

  10. I'm an avid Downton Abbey watcher, too. The hubs got me season one for Valentine's Day, so hopefully that'll tide me over until it starts up again. The Mary & Matthew engagement was long coming, but not as exciting as the real life long-coming engagement between my brother and his newly-minted fiance that we finally got to celebrate this weekend.

I find winter a bit bleak when there isn't snow on the ground, but you've managed to capture some beautiful pictures! Thanks for sharing.

  12. I can't believe I didn't get to watch even 1 episode of Downtown Abbey. Oh well, maybe they'll have reruns. I enjoyed how you placed that quote on your image...very lovely! xo ~Lili
