You and Me

24 years ago today two hearts became one, that was the day that Mr. Tide and I tied the knot.

We weren't your average couple, we had a whirlwind romance that started when we met racing sailboats on a Wednesday night in mid October 1985. I had a torn ligament in my ankle from playing racquetball and wasn't even planning to go sailing that night. But the boat's owner convinced me to be helmsman for the evening so that I wouldn't have to move around a lot on the boat, and as fate would have it, Mr. Tide was also one of the crew.

Mr. Tide and I hit it off the moment we met, and even though I had sworn off men after several previous bad relationships, I jokingly told my mother that I was going to marry him when I got home that first night! We saw each other every day after that, and just 5 weeks later we were engaged! I know...crazy right?!

A little over six months later we had a wonderful wedding! Our family and friends gathered to help us celebrate in a venue overlooking the Chesapeake Bay. There was great food and drink, beautiful flowers, and lots of dancing! Did I mention that I love to dance and Mr. Tide...well let's just say that he plays a mean saxophone and trumpet...but the beat most people follow when they dance completely eludes him!

But that's ok, you see he puts up with me, and that's no easy task! So now, 24 years later, I have no regrets (except for maybe that headpiece which screams 1980s!!) and nothing has really changed, he still can't dance, he is still the smartest and most loving man I know, and he still takes my breath away!

Happy Anniversary Babe, You and Me, We Can Do Anything Together!

And for those of you who want to, I would love to hear how you met your better half!

  1. How sweet. Happy anniversary to two love birds!
By the way, we met in a bar...not nearly as romantic as your story and the 80's look is something we both share :)

  4. Oh Kat congratulations. See you were meant to go sailing that night!

I met Blake in high school. I met a girl at a football game who co-incidentally was dating the same guy (Milan) that I was. She invited me to her party that night so we could commiserate about what a lying cheating schmuck he was. It was there that I met Blake. We were married in 1985.

  7. Happy Aniversary! I met Matt after a year abroad, I went to a bar very full of myself and my worldly thoughts on life. He talked about the submissive role of women just to get my goat. I was hooked by his humor and sense of responsibility in life. We married four years later.

  12. We met in the halls of a big government building where I was a brand new employee - 18 years old and away from home for the first time. We had our first date on July 5th - which we still celebrate each year -- this year will be the 40th - and were married just over a year later. We have made it through two kids and retirement - so I'm confident for the future :)

  13. I auditioned for him, he turned to his producer and said "Well, she's better than the last one." I couldn't even see him because I had taken off my glasses...

  14. Happy Anniversary! We celebrated our 21st last week. He's from Texas, I'm from Chicago. He likes to eat steak, I like fish. He's a great big guy, I'm teeny. He likes to stay in the US, I like to travel the globe. Who knows why it works, but it does and I'm very happy. Sounds like you are too!!

    Love,
    Susan and Bentley

  21. Happy Anniversay Kat and Mr Tide. What a lovely video - very 80's but haven't we all got photo's like that. Some of the photo's of Pat and I when we first started seeing each other are hysterical now!
My best friend was dating his best friend and I kept hearing his name. I eventually met this Pat I had been hearing about in a bar with a group of mutual friends and we didn't say much to each other but I left telling my friend that I had a weird feeling I was either going to go out with Pat or end up marrying him. He asked me out and we had our first date 28th Feb 24 years ago - Seth was born on that date 12 years later.
Still together and very happy x
Hope you both have a love day and evening x

  26. Happy Anniversary. Sniff.

I met my hubby of 31 years when I was only 17. I was living in Colorado at the time and he was in college here in Oklahoma. He was friends with my sister and a skinny thing! When I came to school in the Fall we became fast friends. He was in love with Marla and I was in love with Micky. Somehow...in the midst of sharing our lonely hearts we fell in love with each other.

He's still an amazing man. Huge, giving heart and the BEST husband AND father.

    God is good!

    Great PICTURES! Love the video!

  27. CONGRATULATIONS to you both Kat.... :o) !!

Mr SVJ & I met skydiving back in 1996....I'm not sure why we'd never bumped into each other before this time as we'd both been involved in the sport for some years, each at a small club within relative close proximity & both of us attending the same major boogies....!

The closure of one of the clubs bought us together as jumpers & when introduced, we became mates....Jumping during the day, playing pool & sharing a beer or two at night....We came together romantically by accident (something to do with the pool & beer I think....hahahahaha....) & the rest as they say is history....!!

THANKS for sharing your lovely pics with us....!

    Cheers from Oz,
    Tamarah :o)

  28. My husband was one of the town bad boys. Of course I was intrigued. We both were 19 when we met. I didn't think he was 'the one' but he was fun to be with and had a great sense of humor. I guess he's the one, because we're still together.

  29. And hey, I forgot to wish you a happy anniversary. Have you ever explained why you call him Mr. Tide?
Nice vintage photos, too. Crazy that I would think the 80's was vintage.

  45. I met the Carpenter at 20, my junior year of college. We fell in love over night and three months later he told me he was going to marry me! I had plans to go to Africa in the Peace Corp as soon as I graduated...he said he would come. We married 13 months later, joined the Peace Corps, were stationed to leave for Ghana in 4 months when I got pregnant with our first born. We haven't made it to Africa yet, but remained in love these 21 yrs.
