Summertime Bathroom and a Winner

In my old house I had a lovely little powder room used mostly by guests.  And it was a room where I could change out the decor according to the seasons or for various holidays.

In our new house we just have two bathrooms, one hall bath and one in the master bedroom.  Not having a powder room, and having a hall bathroom that is used by guests as well as our son and daughter, was a bit of change for me.  I liked having a special bathroom for guests that would look pretty all the time, and not so much like a bathroom that...well...is used everyday as a bathroom, filled with cleansers, razors, and other personal hygiene products!

When we started our remodel, we had plans to add a powder room, but there really wasn't a good place to put one so we simply renovated the main bathroom. I decided that I would still use it to display my seasonal "pretties."  I mean if all of that decor was good enough for guests, it was surely good enough for us right?

You've seen my inexpensive artwork in here before, but for the summer (and maybe for always) I've added a few starfish to help beach it up!

And of course the shelf needed to be summer'fied so I added these cute towels, pretty lotions with breezy label colors, and a few summery votives.

I love this little turquoise towel embroidered with flip flops!

And nothing says summer and the beach quite like colorful cabana stripes!

I bought several of these votive holders at a local gift store years ago and I still love the floral pattern and bright colors.  And those tiny little beads help cast the most beautiful light when you are in the mood for a nice long, cool soak in the tub!

Yes I'm a weirdo, and I even decorate the back of the toilet!

With cute little decorative flip flop candles!

And these pretty glass seashells, in shades of green and aqua!

Even my bath and hand towels have a tropical, beachy vibe!

And what would summer be without grasshoppers and the scent of sweet honeysuckle?!

So there you have it, my summertime bathroom!  Call me crazy for changing out the decor for each season, but I'm betting a few of you do the same thing...just nod and say yes! ;-)

  7. I love the flip-flops (in Australia we call them thongs, but that doesn't go down well as decor in the States!)
I had a blue octopus from Sydney that I loved and put it on top of the loo - unfortunately there were repercussions: http://cabinonthewater.blogspot.com/2009/10/mean-trick.html

  8. I've never even thought to change my bathroom according to seasons, lol. Of course, I never change anything to that way of thinking. Most everything has a real beachy feel around here and I like it that way. You'd think I would tire of having a house full of seashells, but no, I don't. Everything must go with the shells or it simply must go.

With that said, you know I just fell in love with your bathroom!

Congrats to the winners! I told my granddaughter I want two for my birthday next month and sent her the link to the store. Thanks for telling me about these fabulous rugs!

  9. Love your darling bathroom with it's seaside decor. It really is perfect for guest as well. We don't have a powder room and it's tough making sure it always cleaned up nicely.

Hooray for the winners of the rug. I think I'll order a few now that the giveaway is over. They are SO cute!

  12. I love what you've done here, especially with the ladder. I'm sure if I had that ladder I'd have linens or small quilts on it. Been looking for one for years. Every time I see one in an antique mall, it will have "for display only" on it. The summery bright colors are perfect for your bathroom!

  22. Summers just kicking in here in the northwest, but a visit to your bathroom sure makes it feel like summer. I have a similar ladder to hang on the wall...I may have to steal your decor design with the shells/starfish. Thanks for sharing.
