Round and Round

Everywhere you go in France you can find one of these...

A beautiful old carousel...this one even has a stork you can ride on.  Storks are very important in Strasbourg and the surrounding areas.

They are intricately carved...

And feature beautiful artwork!

And on a Saturday afternoon you will hear the laughter of children as they go round and round.

Just watching these magnificent whirling machines, with their music playing, makes you feel like a kid again.

  2. They really are lovely! They're like pieces of art. It's interesting to hear that you saw so many during your visit abroad.

  3. We were so fortunate to live in that area when our children were small - such a lot of lovely, special things for children there.

  4. Old carousels are the best when it comes to intricacy and beauty. Probably all hand carved. Lovely photos, Kat!

  5. Living in the Binghamton, NY area, I actually get to ride old wooden carousels all the time. It's the carousel capital of the U.S. We have 6 of the only 150 remaining wood carved carousels in the U.S. and Canada right here. They were all donated by a local businessman between1918-1934 and reside at area parks. The fee to ride one is a piece of litter. It's a way to keep the parks beautiful and give back to the area.

Sometimes I forget how special they are. Thanks for the reminder. Beautiful pics! I love the vintage texture added to the pics! Thanks for sharing.

  6. I have always loved carousels, they are so beautiful and these are just beyond gorgeous and the history that some of them must have.
    Have a wonderful weekend Kat!

  8. Oh Kat I LOVE these! And I never knew about the importance of the storks or had ever even seen them on carousels before. I would have been just mesmerized to come upon them. I particularly love the street lamps with the backdrop of the building in that 3rd shot. That is so gorgeous and so very French looking. xo ~Lili
