I'm Alive and Well

Today, the birds were out in force in my backyard. There were mostly Blue Birds, which are my favorite due to their happy nature and striking colors.

All the birds sounded more like they were singing about springtime, rather than autumn. And they flitted from tree to tree as if they didn't have a care in the world.

Even this Red Bellied Woodpecker (tucked behind the leaves in the center of the picture) was happy as a Lark. I wonder why people say that...happy as a Lark? I guess Larks are the optimists of the bird world and are always happy?!

I've always mistakenly called these birds Red Headed Woodpeckers...Google is a wonderful thing folks, and I learned something new today! I knew I would need to mind my P's and Q's for those of you who know your birdies.

As I watched these happy go lucky creatures who seemed so content just to be alive, it made me reflect on how fragile life really is. One day we can be fine and happy, and the next moment life can change on a dime.

Yesterday I read a post entitled Bye My Lovlies on A-M's beautiful blog The House That A-M Built and it made me very sad. She has decided to end her blog due to unforeseen circumstances. That phrase "unforeseen circumstances" conjures up so many things, none of which seem good for some reason. I'd like to think that she won the lottery, was offered a TV hosting position, or is now so busy designing her own line of lighting that she doesn't have time to blog, but the realist in me thinks it's something else. Whatever her reasons, and they are only hers to know, I wish her all the best and hope that she will be happy and healthy and that she will return to blogging when the time is right for her and her family. Please pop over and send her some well wishes and support, I know she would appreciate it.

Last night Mr. Tide returned home from a business trip, I'm always so happy to see him walk through the door!  We never really know what tomorrow will bring, but at this moment, I'm alive and well...and today, you know, that's good enough for me!

I hope you enjoy this little slide show I put together for you, it features one of my all time favorite songs and at the end of the song is a singer who I adore...Dave Matthews. I'll have to tell you my Dave Matthews story sometime...but I'll save that for another day! ;-)

  2. What lovely bird photos and the slide show was great. I feel sad that The House That A-M Built is closing and I hope she will be able to return soon. I know she is leaving so many blog buddies behind. Take care.

  5. The birds are so beautiful! I love the little blue bird, he looks so happy in his house! :) It is scary how quickly life can change and how we tend to forget that sometimes. Just being alive and well is really what we need. I hope that that A-M will be ok and that she will be able to return soon.

  6. I love this post...you would have had me fooled that you knew your birds. I bought a bird watching guide when I moved to the lake but it seems that only the locals really know what they see. The woodpecker is adorable!

I don't know A-M but I will go to her blog and wish her well. Glad your hubby is home...I like a little time to myself but I still love watching Mr. Journal walk back in!

Hope you are having a wonderful weekend!

    XO,
    Jane

  7. The bird photos are beautiful. You always have the most uplifting pictures. I try very hard to remember with children who are 19, 20 and 21 to always say I love you before they close that backdoor. Life can change in an instant. I couldn't bear any type of regrets.

  8. Something I have learnt in recent years is that we should live our lives with no regrets. Inevitably (in all our lives) stuff happens. Sometimes the "stuff" is just SO overwhelming that you can't possibly see a way around it - but (in time) the pathway becomes clearer and you move on. We should never underestimate the strength of the human spirit. A-M's blog yesterday made me incredibly sad as well. I can't help thinking about her. However if there is anyone in this world who has strength of spirit (by the bucketloads!) - it is her. Thank you for your beautiful photos this morning - they brought a smile to my face. Nature is such a wonderful healer. I am heading off now to potter in my garden and find some joy. Have a wonderful day! ;)Sharyne

  14. Beautiful pictures and video! I'm so jealous you have blue birds. We don't have many of those around here because of the tightness of the neighborhood and all its trees. They like the wide open spaces like you have. I'm beginning to think I never saw the prettiest part of Maryland.

  15. Hi Kat, You always have the prettiest outdoor pictures. Your surrounding must be beautiful. I have learned, the hard way, never to take a moment of your life for granted. Keep taking your wonderful photos for us to enjoy.

  17. Your photo's are beautiful, and life can change very quickly. I have a huge family, I'm one of 40 grandchildren with 12 aunts and uncles on my mom's side (told you it was huge). Recently over the last few years we've lost a few family members, we were a very blessed family, we still are, but we miss them. Hug those you love and if you can't hug them because of distance tell them you love them.

  21. Beautifully heartfelt post, Kat.

Very recently I came close to ending my blog, but thankfully chose not to...those dark clouds lifted, and I pray they do for your friend A-M as well.

    Hugs,

  23. Love all of your birdie photos especially the bluebird. They are my favorites too.
I always hate to see a favorite blog close. It feels somewhat like losing contact with a good friend. I had never visited this one, so I popped over to have a look. I found it interesting that she is located in Brisbane as I just arrived there this morning for a one week vacation.

  24. Love that bluebird photo. I have only seen bluebirds in my yard once many years ago. Actually they were eating some berries from the wreath on my front door and then they just flew away. I was so happy to finally see one and then....pouf...no more!

Speaking of birds, about a month or so ago, at different times, my husband and I each heard the call of a bob-white (quail) but neither of us ever saw the quail. I do miss seeing quail.

I look forward to hearing your Dave Matthews story Kat - I adore Dave Matthews !

  27. Hello Kat,

Trying to catch up today and am so glad I stopped by to visit you. I love all the pictures in this post most especially the blue bird. They are one of my favorite birds! I wish I had blue birds visit me but I am grateful for my cardinals. Cardinals are another of my favorite birds. It really started my morning off nicely when I heard one singing this morning while I was getting ready for work.

  28. I love the blue bird on the birdhouse perch. At first it didn't look real, I thought it was a decoration. The pose and simplicity of that image is deceiving. Well done
