Purple Haze

The rain and wind haven't let up for days here, and although it makes it hard to get outside to mow the grass, the spring flowers are loving life these days.

The lilac bush we planted last spring is rewarding us with a handful of blossoms that smell like heaven.

And columbine flowers in shades of deep purple and magenta are spreading like wildfire in our front flower bed, even with the weeds trying to take their place.  Hang in there columbine...when the rain ends we'll come to your rescue!

I ventured out during a break in between downpours today to cut a few of these lovely blossoms to brighten my house and fill my senses.  There is nothing quite like the scent of a fresh lilac bloom...it makes my heart skip a beat and reminds me of my grandmother who loved lilacs as much as I do.

I think flowers are medicine for the soul.  And though I would probably never fill my home with purple or even lavender furnishings or accessories, I still love the color and enjoy having my own little purple haze each spring as these regal colors fill my garden, and ultimately my vases.

Do you have a favorite color springtime blossom?

  1. Beautiful, beautiful, Kat! Your photos are gorgeous! Early in the spring, GREEN is my favorite color...the snow is gone! Then I love the bright yellow of the first forsythia, and then daffodils. Finally lilacs of every shade...

  3. Favorite color? No, I don't. But I do have a favorite springtime blossom and it's the lilac. Absolutely love them and they remind me of my childhood. Gorgeous photos here, girl.

  4. BEAUTIFUL images, as always, Kat. I don't have a favorite color and often switch out accents with the seasons... your purples are perfect for a spring lift and oooh, the aroma of lilac. Is there anything finer? Maybe honeysuckle :)

  5. These are all so beautiful. I always liked the blue and lavender colored hydrangeas. I used to have big bushes of them and they make such nice bouquets for inside. Enjoy your week my friend! Hugs!

  6. I totally agree Kat...medicine for sure! I adore these beautiful photos! If I had to choose a favorite spring bloom color, it would have to be lilac. Mine are a long way from blooming yet, and I can hardly wait. I love your pretty columbines, and as always your photos are amazing!
I hope all is well with you Kat, you've been on my mind lately.
    sending hugs...

  10. Ooh, these are lovely,
    Kat! I have simply been
    craving what the Italians
    call primavera--"first green."
I am traveling this week, but
    know everything will be in
    full primavera when I return!

    Happy Mother's Day.....Hope
it will be a wonderful one for
    you!!'
