They say the pollen this year is going to be worse than it has been in years.
I have been hacking and coughing since I mowed our front yard last Monday...a week ago.
I don't normally have issues with allergies, though I seem to recall saying that same thing last year as I was sneezing and wheezing?! And silly me thought I didn't need to wear a mask while mowing, but I was later proven wrong when I woke up on Tuesday morning, barely able to swallow and with itchy, runny eyes!
Needless to say I have learned my lesson...and with my new found wisdom, I have also banned myself or Mr. Tide from mowing the backyard until we get enough rain to knock down whatever pollen is causing our current discomfort.
As I gazed out for Earth Day today, on our own little piece of this earth, I realized that our yard is mostly weeds, and if we don't mow it soon, we'll likely lose the dogs in it if we're not careful. The bunnies don't seem to mind though...lots of good dandelion greens to munch on out there!
I know they are weeds, but for now, I will have to learn to embrace them and pretend their seeds are tiny parasols for a Downton Abbey style bug lawn party!
Happy Earth Day!
Last year hit me hard, I pray there won't be a repeat! My doctor advised me never to open windows until after 1:00 and to always change clothes after doing yard work. That may help you, Kat.
ReplyDeleteWe are still working on our travel plans. What do you think of Hotel Tabard? It really sounds lovely and I love old inns.
Hope all is well with you (besides the allergy misery!).
XO,
Jane
Amazing pictures-even weeds are beautiful seen throug the right eyes! Gorgeous- xo Diana
ReplyDeleteI like that Downton Abbey bug lawn party idea...quite a visual! Lovely photos, Kat! Hope you are feeling better soon...even my dogs have allergies this year...
ReplyDeletePerhaps a jungle would bring other joys, far better than hay fever?
ReplyDeleteMy husband says that he is mowing the dandelions and wild onions!:-) They are certainly doing far better than any grass that might be out there!
ReplyDeleteI think your weeds are pretty.
ReplyDeleteYou make dandelions look good. I usually have no trouble with pollen but this year with all the trees that fell I have issues. I just bought a dandelion fork and am yanking them up. Even in my neighbors yard.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if it would work with your meds, but a daily antihistamine would help your allergies a LOT! I used to take Claritin. Zyrtec is another good one. At the advice of a friend, when she heard that I was having trouble staying asleep, I now take 50mg of Benadryl every night at bedtime. It gives me a little bit of oomph to stay asleep at night (instead of waking up every two hours like I had been doing) and I no longer wake up with awful allergy symptoms. Remember, allergies are inflamation and the symptoms can really cause problems (as you are living with now.) Preventive care is the most effective.
ReplyDeleteIt’s tropical in our place and it seems that the weeds remind me of the garden in our cabin! I love that you capture the exquisite photo that brightens our day. We are planning to modify our cabin this month and one of these weeds is probably one of centers in our pot! Creative!
