No...not that kind of bun in the oven! I'm talking about a yummy golden brown sort of bun. The kind of buns that fill the air with a heavenly scent, and their light and fluffy goodness just begs for some farm fresh butter!
When my in-laws were here visiting, we exchanged some "just because" gifts. I had found some Sarabeth's Strawberry Rhubarb Jam to give to my mother-in-law because I know she likes the combination of those two flavors, and she gave me a lovely little bread warmer that she had picked up in Hilton Head last winter! She also bought one for our daughter who loves to cook!
This darling piece of art is called a sea biscuit bread warmer and I love the starfish design...it's so ME! What's not to love about something that is both pretty and practical?!
And because the sea biscuit bread warmer is made by Chris Niertert of Beaufort South Carolina, I think it's only appropriate that I should use it with my beautiful sweetgrass bread basket! I have contacted Chris to see if I can find out how to order these beachy bread warmers, which would make great hostess gifts, and I'll update my post when I hear back from her.
I have several sweetgrass baskets that I've picked up in Charleston and the surrounding areas over the years, but the bread basket pictured was something I inherited from my parents. My mother loved these baskets and the history behind them.
These baskets truly are one of a kind works of art created by artisans with a tradition of basket making that has been handed down from generation to generation. To read more about their unique and enduring history you can click HERE!
My mother-in-law has always had a knack for finding me gifts that I love, and this perfect little sea biscuit is definitely a gift I will enjoy for many years to come!
