Today I convinced Mr. Tide to go to one of my favorite thrift stores. It's a favorite because the proceeds go to benefit local animal shelters so I never mind spending money when it's for such a worthwhile cause. Like all thrift stores, at least the ones I have visited, you need to hunt and peck a bit to find a few treasures so I made a few laps around the store while Mr. Tide mumbled "we don't need anymore crap" under his breath the whole time.
Now, it's not like I don't listen, and I know he's 100% right, I barely have room for the "stuff" we already own, but he just doesn't get the thrill of the chase, the exhilaration of the score, and the happy dance you get to do when you find something you like and it's really, really cheap!
So I thought I would share a few of my latest thrifty finds, and also a few things I got for free recently while cleaning out my parent's attic! We are finally moving forward with trying to sell their house now that they are both gone, and let's just say that 60 years worth of saving stuff in an attic amounts to about 2 days worth of trips to the dump and donation places! My brother, sister "M," and our helpful families went through every last thing in that attic, and instead of finding items that we could all retire on, we found lots of broken stuff and silverfish...ewww!!! There were a few worthless treasures that are priceless to us of course, but most of it was destined for a dumpster!
I love this little floral tin bowl I found in the attic! The colors are still beautiful after all of these years!
This pretty pink compote is carnival glass and most likely was won at the local county fair years ago. Remember when they had the goldfish toss and if you threw the ring around the goldfish bowl you could win a piece of carnival glass or a goldfish?!
This enamel flower bucket isn't old or valuable, but it was free so I love it all the more! And it will be pretty this summer filled with giant sunflowers!
This cute glass figurine looks like a fish out of water next to one of my tulips! I found "Nemo" at the thrift store today, and I think he's happy now that he's so close to the water once again!
I plan to make something fun with this old soap sack, just not sure what yet...maybe a pillow! What do you all think?
The only kind of scales I like, are old kitchen scales! I love how this vintage scale has pictures of food and measuring utensils on it!
I've been looking for a sweet little creamer for a while now, and the price on this one was too good to pass up today! I love the floral motif etched on the side!
What wonderful thrifty treasures have you found lately?
