My days are all kind of running together. Each morning I've been getting up super early and I can't go back to sleep because dogs need to go out, be fed, then that cold breeze from taking them out wakes my brain up and I can't shut it down.
Then I begin to go over everything I need to do, which right now is about a million things, so then I definitely can't go back to sleep, so I just start working.
It feels good to get things done and keep working towards the goal line.
It's kind of like when you decide to clean out a closet and once you start you just can't stop.
And then when you are all done, and the closet is nice and tidy, you feel like you've conquered the world!
It is important to take a break though, and a few of you have sweetly written to me to remind me of that fact. So today I decided to take a few pictures as a way to distract myself for a little while.
I guess for some people hauling out a camera and getting everything set up might be stressful, but for me it's a nice relaxing break. It gets my creative juices flowing, and while I'm taking pictures I can forget the swirl of life that is happening all around me.
Having pretty or interesting things to photograph doesn't hurt either...like the last of my roses, French ephemera and some of my grandmother's and great grandmother's jewelry as willing subjects.
I have to admit that I was a little lazy and didn't really try to make the pictures look all that different from one another...my brain was just a little too tired for that I'm afraid. But sometimes doing the same thing or taking the same sort of picture is a good thing I think, it gives me a sense of comfort, and as long as I'm making strides, it's not so bad really.
Do you find comfort in repetition?!
On a side note I want to say WOW to my fellow Americans for really turning out in mass yesterday to vote. No matter which way you voted, whether today finds you happy or sad, you should take comfort in the fact that you were part of the process and it's that kind of effort that will see us through whatever lies ahead.
And to those affected by Sandy, I hope this nor'easter passes you by without much headache...you have enough on your plate right now, and really deserve a break and some warmer weather!
That's some really pretty older jewelry. I would wear a piece or two of it on a daily basis; I think pearls were meant to be worn and not laying in a drawer.
ReplyDeleteSorry about the sleep issue. I have a night like that here and there, and lately quite a few of them due to a snoring husband. I have been meaning to purchase ear plugs for a long time but it never seems to make it onto my 'things I really need to buy' list.
Frankly, I was relieved to find that this is not a political post. And I love what you said about voting. No matter who you voted for - being a part of the process is something big. Pretty photos here.
ReplyDeleteLove your images today, and the sentiment.
ReplyDeleteI'm up at 5am most mornings, and one of the dogs sleeps on the bed next to me, the other at the foot of my bed in his own. Once they see that I'm stirring, they want OUT and food. And so it is. I do take comfort in repetition.
These are beautiful pictures, but I do know it's hard to find inspiration this time of year. It's sometimes best to just have a meaningful post and clear the cobwebs in our minds! I identify with you a lot on getting satisfaction out of a little productiveness. I have been sort of lazy lately, grateful for this calm before the storm (and not the real one heading for the East Coast). At night I think of what I've accomplished and sometimes feel like a real slug. But the little things, organizing a drawer or cabinet, getting laundry done, getting out of the house for a bit, they matter s lot to me. I've been reading s lot, books, magazines and blogs, a diversion from realities I think. I hope I look back at these days gratefully. They may not be me at my best, but they are me.

Jane
Hello, Kat - I'm back home. As much as I love traveling, it's nice to be home. And I've been getting up super early, too....maybe jet lag. You are not lazy, and your photos are all unique and beautiful :) I love and appreciate EACH one ~ Loi
ReplyDeleteWhat could be more romantic than roses, pearls and French ephemera? Beautiful photos Kat!
ReplyDeleteWe have had power back for two days...and tonight we already have 3 inches of snow on the ground...
Feeling so grateful that we have heat and warm beds. :)
I cleaned out my summer clothes today and that does feel good. I also took pictures which is very relaxing to me, too. Stay warm.
ReplyDeleteThe images are lovely Kat.
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful photos, Kat...love the rich textures and colors!
ReplyDeleteBeing a creature of habit, I too find comfort in repetition, but you don't want to know about it.
ReplyDeleteI'm having a terrible time getting thru this time change so I can understand what you're going thru! Altho I rather do like the quiet time, alone time, so early in the morn' LOL! So glad you've worked thry your difficulties! You're a very strong woman! Take Care Kat!
ReplyDeleteIt is a good feeling when you achieve the things you want to get done. Good to sometimes take time out. Your pictures are lovely.
ReplyDeleteJust stopping to check in with you. I decided this week to actually schedule in some blogging time. Write a day, read the next and so on. I kept waiting to have the time and energy and it kept getting pushed to the back burner. I had to make myself remember how much I really do enjoy reading other's blogs and even writing my own. We will see how long I keep it up, but it has been nice to get back to it. I'm not sure what is keeping you so busy (since I haven't been reading many blogs) but you do need to take a few breaks for yourself...it is good for you!
ReplyDeleteRoses and pearls, how sublime. They make my mind feel gentled just looking at them!
ReplyDeleteKat-- I'm totally in love with every picture you take-- these are amazing!!
